The Local Dissemination Event and the 6th meeting of the Western Greece Regional Implementation Group of the InCompass project took place on Monday, December 8, 2014 at Hotel Byzantino in Patras.
Image - Picture Fifty six (56) persons participated in total, from seventeen (17) stakeholders, each representing a different but crucial role within the Regional Innovation System. In detail, the following stakeholders participated in the event:

  • Decentralized Administration of the Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian Islands
  • Regional Development Fund of the Region of Western Greece

  • Federation of Peloponnese & Western Greece Industries
  • Patras Science Park
  • Corallia Clusters Initiative
  • Manpower Employment Organization
  • Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras
  • Hellenic Consulting
  • Diadikasia SA
  • Panteion University
  • University of Patras
In the first part of the event, critical aspects related to the development of business incubators in the region of Western Greece were presented, with emphasis on the development of the regional innovation ecosystem and the enhancement of the creative industries sector.

At the beginning of the event, the Head of the Western Greece Region, Mr. Apostolos Katsifaras, and the President of the Chamber of Achaia, Mr. Platonas Marlafekas stressed the significance of the InCompass project for the region.
Image - Picture Next, two presentation were delivered by the InCompass project partners. The presentation of the InCompass project by Mr. Spiros Papaspyrou, and the presentation of the University of Patras, by Prof. Kostas Tsekoura, entitled "Revisiting the role of Science & Technology Parks in the Heart of the Fiscal Austerity Era: The case of a lagging Greek RIS".
Image - Picture Then Mr. Vasileios Avdikos, Lecturer in the Department of Economic and Regional Development, Panteion University, made a presentation with title "Creative Economy, Incubators for startups and Local Development, the case of Athens.
Image - Picture The event continued with two presentations by the General Secretariat for Industry of the Ministry of Development and Competitiveness, namely the presentation of the Head of SMEs Directorate, General Secretariat for Industry, Mr. Zacharias Mavroukas, with title "European Policy for SMEs - Small Business Act» and the presentation of Mr. Ioannis Plemmenos entitled "The Creative Industries & crafts as SMEs development factors".

  • "Factors that determine the creation of a business incubator", Gerasimos Mentzelopoulos, Patras Science Park
  • "Corallia - Innovation Centres (innohubs) as tools for clusters’ development", Dimitris Papaeliou, Corallia: Hellenic Technology Clusters
  • "DIPETHE Patras. From planning to implementation", Theodoros Abazis, Artistic Director of Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras

The first part of the event ended with an open discussion where participants had the opportunity to ask questions about the presentations and to express their concerns and views.

In the second part of the event, the 6th and last Regional Implementation Group (RIG) took place. During the RIG meeting, the WGR presented the regional implementation plan that was developed during the InCompass project, together with the 16 best practices identified by the project.
