City of Rotterdam hosts InCompass Project’s first study visit. 2-3 May 2012
The project Regional Policy Improvement for Financially Sustainable Creative Incubator Units (InCompass project) held its kick-off conference on 22-23 February 2012 in Dundee, Scotland. The meeting counted with the participation of the core project consortium, consisting of 15 partners from 12 European countries: Scotland, Spain, Netherlands, Lithuania, Greece, Slovakia, Italy, England, Portugal, Sweden, Hungary and Bulgaria. Hosted by Dundee College, InCompass Project Coordinator, and organized as a two-day session, the Steering Committee made the first decisions regarding tasks and work methodology, as well as the celebration of the first Thematic Seminar.

The first InCompass project’s study visit took place on 2 and 3 May in the city of Rotterdam. Organized and hosted by the project partner of Delft University of Technology, the partners attending had the opportunity to identify and discuss best practices and models of management regarding the self-sustainability of incubators in creative industries in two referenced centers in Rotterdam – the Creative Factory and RDM Campus.

The Province of Milan and BIC La Fucina hosted the second study visit of the European project InCompass (Regional Policy Improvement for financially sustainable Creative Incubator Units) financed by the Interreg IV C Programme. The 15 project partners came to Milan to meet the players of the incubation experiences in the field of cultural and creative businesses with the aim of identifying good practices of financial sustainability.
The 1st meeting of the Greek Regional Implementation Group (RIG) of the InCompass project took place on the 11th of July, 2012 at the premises of Chamber of Achaia. Eleven regional stakeholders participated, each having different orientation and positioning in the context of the necessity, in policy terms, for the Region of Western Greece (i) to prioritise the support of the creation of new high-tech innovative companies in its policy agenda and (ii) design and implement corresponding policies.
SUSTAINABLE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES:
InCompass Project participates in IF
On 27-28 February, some 300 policy-makers and practitioners gathered in Milan (Italy) for the official launch of the European Creative Industries Alliance (ECIA) during the Innovation Festival Finale. This event brought together for the first time the 28 partner organisations from 12 countries that build the core of the ECIA. The conference began with policy discussions highlighting the importance of creative industries and how these industries can better be supported in Europe. During the two days meeting, InCompass’ coordinator, Andy Mckenzie, has the opportunity to present the project.
€8.1 billion investment in research and innovation to create growth and jobs
The European Commission has today announced the final and biggest ever set of calls for proposals for research under its Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). In total, €8.1 billion will support projects and ideas that will boost Europe's competitiveness and tackle issues such as human health, protecting the environment and finding new solutions to growing challenges linked to urbanisation and managing waste. The funding - which is open to organisations and businesses in all EU Member States and partner countries - makes up the lion's share of the EU's proposed €10.8 billion research budget for 2013. This announcement comes just days after EU leaders emphasised the importance of research and innovation in the Compact for Growth and Jobs.
